Help shape our research

We believe parents and carers are experts in their own lives, which is why we work alongside families to design, test and improve our research.

Every family has experiences, insights and ideas that can help improve services for children and families. We believe parents and carers are experts in their own lives, which is why we work alongside families to design, test and improve our research.

Whether you have five minutes to complete a survey or would like to be more actively involved in shaping our work, we would love to hear from you.

Why get involved?

By sharing your experiences, you can help us:

  • Improve services for children and families
  • Influence policy and practice
  • Ensure research reflects real family experiences
  • Co-design solutions that work for families
  • Amplify the voices of parents and carers

No previous experience of research is needed. We welcome parents and carers from all backgrounds and experiences.

Some of the ways you might be asked to take part

Surveys

  • We may invite you to take part in short surveys.
  • These help us understand family experiences, identify emerging issues and gather feedback on services.
  • Taking part is flexible and usually only takes a few minutes.

Parent Focus Group (PFG)

Our parent focus groups give you the opportunity to share views on specific topics, services or resources. As a member, you may be invited to:

  • Review materials and communications
  • Give feedback on new ideas and services
  • Share experiences through online discussions
  • Complete short consultation activities
  • Participation is flexible, with no obligation to take part in every activity.

Parent Advisory Group (PAG)

Our Parent Advisory Groups work more closely with our research and engagement partners to help shape projects from the beginning. Members may:

  • Help design research projects
  • Advise on research questions and priorities
  • Review findings and recommendations
  • Co-create resources and services
  • Represent parent and carer perspectives throughout projects
  • Participation may be in a more fixed pattern than other activities, but this is an opportunity to make sure family voices are at the heart of research design and decisions

All research opportunities will be communicated with full and transparent information to enable parents and carers to make informed decisions about participation. Taking part is always entirely voluntary, and there is never any expectation to participate. Where incentives or thank-you payments are available, these will be explained in advance so parents and carers can make a fully informed choice.
