How does it work?
Parent Champions are parent volunteers who give a few hours a week to talk to other local parents about the services you offer to families. Parent Champions for Home Learning support parents to find out more about the benefits of home learning, how they can learn at home with their child and how to engage with local services that can support them. Parent Champions are often out and about in the local community, reaching parents in playgrounds, markets, libraries, community events and local play groups.
Why Parent Champions?
Parent Champions can have some of the same experiences and backgrounds as the parents that you would like to engage. Being parents themselves, they are able to share their own positive experiences in a relatable, trusted and informal way. They can use their own positive experience of learning at home with their child to support other parents to do the same, and give simple ideas of activities that can help children’s learning.
What are the benefits of Parent Champions for Home Learning?
- Engage with families less likely to access services
- Increases learning at home; improving outcomes for children
- Brings families into children’s centres and other community settings
- Volunteers gain new skills and confidence
- Children in your community are better prepared for school
