Parent Champions for Resilient Families

How does it work?

Parent Champions are parent volunteers who give a few hours a week to talk to other parents about childcare and other local services available to families. Parent Champions for Resilient Families supports parents and carers at risk of family breakdown. They share positive stories of the interventions and support they received from early help and preventative services to inspire others to access and engage with local services.

Why Parent Champions?

Parent Champions volunteering for a Parent Champions for Resilient Families scheme are parents and carers who have received support themselves and have been motivated by their own experience of local services to support others. Having a personal understanding of the complex and difficult situations families can face allows Parent Champions to share their own positive experience of local services in a relatable, trusted and informal way. They often meet with local parents at schools, children’s centres, doctor surgeries, libraries, coffee mornings and community get together’s.

What are the benefits of Parent Champions for Resilient Families?

  • Engage with families less likely to access services
  • Helps families to integrate into their wider community
  • Supporting families early on helps to prevent family breakdown
  • Volunteers gain new skills and confidence
