Older People’s Care Survey 2018

Coram Family and Childcare's third annual Older People’s Care Survey – funded by Legal & General – finds that four in five older people in the UK live in areas that do not have enough care to meet demand, leaving over 4.3 million people aged 75 and over living in areas without enough care. 34 per cent of local authorities expect the situation to get worse in the next year, compared with only 1 per cent who expect it to get better.

Experiences of childminders in London

In the context of a twenty-year decline in the number of childminders registered in London, The Family and Childcare Trust spoke to 16 people who were previously registered childminders working in London. Interviewees were asked about why people take up childminding, why they are leaving the profession, and whether the GLA (Greater London Authority) can take any steps to support and encourage childminders to remain in the profession.

The Future of Family Services

Recruited and trained by the Family and Childcare Trust, four groups of parent researchers from across the country spoke to nearly 500 parents to understand what families need and want from early years services. Parents said they most value services where they could take part in activities with their child, such as stay and play groups. These were seen as opportunities for children for development and for parents to learn new skills and strengthen their sense of community.

School ready? A survey of school leaders

The Family and Childcare Trust and the NAHT conducted a survey of school leaders to assess the readiness of students starting primary school. Eight out of ten school leaders reported that many children arriving at primary school were not ready to take part in classroom activities. Of these, 86 per cent were concerned that children’s school readiness had become worse than five years ago.
